Well, we found heaven one night recently at Salvatore’s Tomato Pies in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
First, thank you to Chris, our excellent server and to the bar manager, Jack, who so clearly has put a lot of love and energy in to an extensive and delicious mocktail (and cocktail) menu. As you’ll see from our empty glassware below we tried just about everything; and oh that NA Lyre’s Spirit Co Margarita…yu-uum.
We walked into their newest location in their original flagship community of Sun Prairie and this place was fabulous. They managed to perfectly transform a clearly very-loved building into what it is today. You walk into to greet a friendly server at the door and then the first giant room holds the bar and several bar area tables. Just beyond that, the back half of the restaurant has many more tables and a view of where the magic (pizza) happens.
We started the evening off at the bar, grabbing a couple of drinks off the menu and watching the bartenders master their craft. They served a Club Soda with a lime beautifully and I started with The Black Pearl. An impressive blend of good bourbon, balsamic fig reduction and clockwork orange. Believe me when I tell you I dream about this drink. Almost as often as Katy dreams about (and brings up) the most incredible margarita of all time. The Margarita was literally the best either of us have had anywhere, ever. Fully leaded tequila or not.
As we started off our Live, the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. They continued to bring us fabulous drinks and even hopped on video with us for a bit (see above). These folks made our experience what it was and you can tell that they love what they do.
Once we wrapped up our latest episode it was time to eat! We started our meal with Grandma Aversano’s Meatball, and I swear I’d be there weekly if I could for this alone. It was exactly what you’d hope for a meatball to be; HUGE. The house red sauce was incredible and the bread was a lovely addition, though this meatball absolutely stands on its own without the bread.
From there we ordered a couple of their famous pies. A simple pepperoni and then a signature pie called Joey Bananas. The hot honey on Joey Bananas was everything. Even as I write this, I’m trying to figure out how quickly we can get back to eat there again.
But, you’re not really here for the eats. We just think its super important to highlight how amazing places are in all aspects. This place fully Mocked & Cocked and we can’t wait to go back.
